Murud is known for a notable beach, and for its proximity to Janjira off the coast of Rajapuri, a sea fort. Murud has a beautiful and calm beach having long, scenic stretch. Murud has a lot of beach resorts to enjoy the beach view.Murud is a taluka city in Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Situated at a distance of 42 km from Alibag.


Murud-Janjira (5 km south)

Murud-Janjira Fort is situated on an oval-shaped rock off the Arabian Sea coast near the port town of Murud. The fort is approached by sailboats from Rajapuri jetty. A special attraction of this fort are 3 gigantic cannons named Kalalbangdi, Chavri and Landa Kasam.

Padmadurg Fort(5km)

Padmadurg, also known as Kasa fort, is one of five historical sea forts built by Shivaji Maharaj in 1676 C.E. and located in Raigad district Maharashtra, India. The sea fort of Padmadurg is not as big as Janjira but still the fort can be visited and enjoyed. Visiting the fort requires taking permission from Custom\Navy. This fort can be accessed by boats. Boats are mainly available from Murud-Koliwada (Mahadev Koli Vasahat) near Fish Market.

Korlai fort (30 km north)

Before its destruction, Korlai had been described by travelers as a "magnificent fortress as strong as any other in the world". It is easily approachable by road. The road from Korlai bus stop ends at the Lighthouse. The fort has three entrance.There is ample of water on the topmost fortification, so a night halt can easily be made.

The Khokari (or Khokri) tombs are three 500-year-old massive stone tombs of early Janjira rulers in western India, near Murud in Maharashtra state.
